The July 4 floods in the Hill Country brought Texas and an entire nation to our knees as, for days, we watched in horror and disbelieve the media footage captured so close to home. But for our friends, neighbors, and family members a mere 60 miles to the northwest, this unspeakable tragedy changed their lives forever.
As San Antonio entered a period of palpable mourning for the immense loss of human life, we have all desired to do something to help, to lend a neighborly hand to those who have suffered and lost so much.
TO THE HILL COUNTRY WITH LOVE is a grand community concert of caring, sharing, and bearing the burdens of people we love as well as strangers we have never met. Six months to the day of the tragedy, teenagers, university and community college students, children, adults, and senior adults – all joined by a broad cross-section of the San Antonio arts community and members of the San Antonio Philharmonic – will join together the weekend of January 2-4, 2026 to help ease the Hill Country burden and begin to heal some of its unaddressed pain.
The heroes amidst the flood were the Hill Country’s first responders, joined by colleagues from across the United States as well as Mexico and Canada. Hundreds of millions of dollars have poured into the Hill Country region to assist repair and rebuild infrastructure, homes, businesses, camps, churches, schools, and public buildings.

Although we provide all singers free participation, we urge all who are able to make a donation in any amount, large or small, to help defray the cost of the January 4th concert. All community youth, students, and adult singers are invited to participate!
Registration is now open for singers!

How will I be prepared musically for this concert?
When you register, watch your email inbox for regular updates from YouthCUE beginning on Friday, November 7. Within the regular update emails, there will be very specific instructions for various aspects of the event. Also in the updates, you will be sent links to the anthems we will sing, along with PDFs of the printed music. Please study the music ahead of time using your PDFs and link. This way, you can practice anytime, especially during the Christmas holidays when things slow down a bit!
When you arrive for rehearsals beginning on Friday afternoon, January 2, we will spend intensive time getting the music ready for the performance. Rehearsals continue on Saturday. You will be able to use your scores on all the music – nothing needs to be memorized – and the music will come together quickly. Trust us … we have done many (MANY!) of these types of programs before, and we are professionals at bringing it together. If you will do some listening and working on your own and then come into the rehearsals ready to work, we WILL be ready for the Sunday concert.
And, this is going to be SO MUCH FUN!

The fundraising efforts of TO THE HILL COUNTRY WITH LOVE are designated specifically for helping restore the lives, mental health, and material needs of the brave, courageous, and compassionate first responders and their families who have put it all on the line for others. On multiple occasions, these trained professionals placed their own lives in harm’s way to save others, thinking little of their own risk and putting their neighbors first.
TO THE HILL COUNTRY WITH LOVE is one way we can say “thank you.” It is but one expression which poignantly says, “we love you and thank God for you and your constant efforts in keeping all of us safe.”
No gift is too small or too large to contribute to the community offering of solidarity and support. Let us not forget that these real-life heroes are there to protect all of us when we need it, every day of the year and in all hours of the day and night. They well deserve our generous community support!
