Refuge composed by Keith Christopher. For SATB choir. Words based on Psalm 46:1-2 & Isaiah 43:2-3. General Worship. Octavo. 12 pages. Published by Hope Publishing Company (HP.C5893).

With a text based on Psalm 46, this original anthem addresses the comfort and safety we have in God during times of trouble. It speaks of God being our refuge and strength, followed by the assurance of God's promise to be with us through the water, the river, and the fire. The final stanza changes in person declaring directly to God: YOU are our refuge, YOU are our strength, bringing this earnest anthem to a powerful conclusion.

I am personally biased to this anthem because it was written by Keith Christopher for my sister-in-law and brother as they together battle Susie's cancer diagnosis of early 2013.

Beyond the emotional impact of the anthem, it is a perfect gentle setting of a glorious text which students - and all of us - need to hear constantly ringing through our hearts. This makes a superb contrasting piece for any upbeat youth choir concert, and it is perfect for usage in practically any worship setting. I am grateful to Keith for providing this little jewel for student choirs across the nation. Adult choirs will enjoy singing it, as well.

I believe your students will warm up to this piece immediately and will carry it with them in their memories for decades hence.
