From the beginning of teaching this anthem, the director needs to help the singers visualize how powerful this music can become, both to them and to the listeners. Accompaniment and text are in perfect sync in communicating the drama of Jesus' suffering in the Garden of Gethsemane. The power of the piece could cause the singers to over-sing, so it is important to instruct them to sing correctly and well. Clear diction is essential in this anthem. Singers giving their full focus to this piece will find it to be exceedingly moving and unforgettable.
