I began using this anthem with a strong student choir as soon as it was published. The timeless nature of the writing makes it highly effective with students. In rehearsals, we had a couple of highly memorable discussions about the deeper meaning of the text - discussions I remember vividly twenty-one years later! The phrases are filled with emotion and are perfect for teaching phrasing, breath control, stagger breathing, and flowing lines. Your students will remember this one, as will you and I.
