With lyrics based on Psalm 148, this delightful up-tempo anthem invites active participation in praise by all ages. The work is imaginatively composed for adult choir plus youth choir while the piano part, descant, and optional bell choir add excitement and movement to the texture. A brief lyrical section provides contrast to the modern harmonic motion and gentle syncopation and leads into O God, Our Help in Ages PastJoyful!

Listed as an anthem for combined Youth & Adults, this celebratory anthem is fun to sing, yet is a refined treatment of the text based on Psalm 148. The lilting rhythms and mixed meter will need some specific attention by all but the most advanced choirs but are repeated often enough and well-matched to the text to achieve precision quickly. An interesting accompaniment and a brief quote of "O God, Our Help in Ages Past" (including a page to print for congregational participation) makes this a real treat for a festive Sunday or concert. In the opinion of this reviewer, the "Youth Choir" parts will work best with all treble voices or advanced children since it is arranged for SA only. A very nice anthem of praise! Also available: 3-4 octave handbell score that expands upon the already interesting keyboard accompaniment.

The Bottom Line

Pros
Upbeat, celebratory very accessible with attention to rhythm
Cons
Mixture of duple & compound meter & can be rhythmically tricky.
