Based on Psalm 145, this stately anthem for choir, organ and trumpet is ideal for Thanksgiving and as a general psalm of praise. Alternating between a strong unison line and four-part harmony, the anthem moves toward an exciting climax. The addition of the optional solo trumpet adds to the majesty of the piece.

Allen Pote has written a fine anthem with a celebratory nature and purpose, suitable for any choir and any service, but this reviewer feels the demo recording is sung in a style that contradicts those intentions. Too legato and too slow, at the marked 76 BPM, it may be easily made to feel more martial and stately at a slightly quicker tempo (no faster than 86 BPM) and a more marcato singing style (most important) which will spark this piece to a far more exciting level. Please do not judge this piece by the demo recording. It is indeed not to be missed.
The Bottom Line
Pros
Nice setting of the text in a stately style.
Cons
none
