This traditional spiritual has been set with a beautiful flute (or other C instrument) obbligato that keeps the energy moving forward. A brief a cappella section that is supported by a single flute line right at the end begins a decrescendo winding down to the end. In fact the entire piece begins softly and gradually builds to a forte climax in the middle and returns to decrescendo gradually with less motion to the end.
A nice inclusion in a worship service or as a gem in the midst of a spirituals concert, Give Me Jesus' simple message perfectly touches the singers and audience.
