All Praise to Thee is a beautifully written anthem for Christmas. The text is based on Gelobet seist du, Jesu Christ from a chorale written by Martin Luther and first published in 1524. Composer Elaine Hagenberg makes this truly accessible for a wide variety of choirs, both large and small. Exceptional music!

This translation from Martin Luther is embellished by beautiful "Alleluia" sections, rich in harmonic interest. The flowing accompaniment adds a feeling of movement and encourages the choral drama with its ebb and flow. It will be important to note to the choir from the beginning that the melody begins each statement on the "ti" (leading tone) of the scale. Once pointed out, this should not pose any issue to the choir in this otherwise very accessible offering. Additionally, the "Alleluias" will reinforce the need for pure and completely unified vowels from every singer, without which much of the beauty would be lost. This will surely be a favorite among singers and listeners.

The Bottom Line

Pros
Lush harmonies and a strong Martin Luther text
Cons
None of concern
